This municipality and city in the southeast of the island of Mallorca have a Mediterranean climate, which means that it has a very good temperature all year round. It is bounded by the municipalities of Ses Salines, Felanitx, and Campos. It is a city that is characterized by the preservation of its rural essence, its Mallorcan tradition, its history, its culture and its special natural light, and the turquoise color of its water.
It has an approximate area of ​​125 km (square) and about 40 km of coastline with spectacular bays, beaches, and one of the most important and largest natural parks on the island, the Mondragó Natural Park, which all make a place that attracts many international artists.
Santanyí is characterized by its natural environment and consists of several cities, S`Alqueria Blanca, Porto Petro, Cala D`Or, Calonge, Cala Figuera, Es Llombards, La Costa, Cala Llombards, Cala Santanyí, and Caló d`es Moro. HOW DO YOU GET?

Santanyí is 45 km from Mallorca Airport and 52 km from the capital (approx. 45 minutes by car).
The best options are:
RENT A CAR that will give you freedom when visiting the community.
BUS, the least convenient option due to the long travel time, but a valid and cheap option to visit Santanyí. There are several lines that connect Santanyí with the airport, the capital and various municipalities on the island. You can check the timetables and prices on the internet: www.tib.org
TAXI, the most expensive option, but comfortable and valid for those who want to get carried away.

WHAT TO VISIT

Once in the city, we can visit the old town, the shops and markets and enjoy the numerous cultural activities throughout the year. The local market of Santanyí is one of the most famous on the island. It takes place two days a week on Wednesday and Saturday mornings with a wide range of products, gastronomy, and local handicrafts.
It also has a great complimentary offering where you can find supermarkets from large franchisees like Lidl or Eroski, as well as small local shops selling groceries, decorations, clothing, handicrafts, etc.
There is a great range of cafes and restaurants, a paradise for gourmets.

LIFE

Santanyí is a quiet city and life in this or one of its cities can be an unforgettable experience. It can be an ideal place to live with your family.
For the education of your children, it offers two primary schools, one private and one public, a secondary institute and a music school, which are recognized all over the island. There is also a city library.
At the health level, you will find a local ambulance where you have access to a doctor and an ambulance service.
At the athletic level, you can practice sports in the facilities, which are equipped with a wide variety of activities adapted to all ages. You can also find any other type of service such as B. lawyers, police, pharmacies, gas stations, mechanics, hardware stores, warehouses, driving schools ...

SOME OF THE MAJOR CITIES OF SANTANYÍ

For what it does on the outskirts of Santanyí we find:

S’Alqueria Blanca, a small town about 6 km away, a town with a lot of charm and a Mallorcan atmosphere. If you are thinking of a quieter place without a doubt, S’Alqueria Blanca has a lot to offer you. There we can find a primary school, a pharmacy and small shops to meet your basic needs. It has a small sanctuary called Consolació from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the southeast of the island. There is also a small market every Tuesday morning where we can buy seasonal vegetables and fruits and even a bag of clothes.

Calonge, about 10 km away, is another small town with a Mallorcan atmosphere and very well known. The offer is similar. There is a primary school, a pharmacy, small shops and bars and restaurants where you can always find what you are looking for without having to move. The market takes place on Thursday morning.

Porto Petro, about 11 km away, is a coastal town with a natural bay with a small fishing port and a private Royal Nautical Club. Many tourists are attracted to this place, with a great tourist offer, it is still a quiet and charming place. It has a great range of cafes and restaurants but also meets basic needs with a pharmacy, hairdresser, a few shops and two supermarkets. The bays with crystal clear water and the Mondragó Natural Park make Porto Petro a paradise.

If you are concerned about how to take your children to the institute, do not worry too much since the Santanyí institute has a bus that picks up the children from each municipality.

And for your purchases, there is no reason to worry since the distances are very small, and in just a few minutes you can access any of the supermarkets and stores that this place offers.

Surroundings

Near Santanyi at about 16.2 km we find the “Caribbean” of the island, the d’Es Trenc beach, with more than 5 km of white sand beach and crystal clear water. Es Trenc is also a protected natural space with access through several car parks to make the arrival more pleasant.

In the town of Sa Colònia de Sant Jordi, only about 20 minutes from Santanyí, we will find beaches such as Es Dolç, Es Carbó, Sa Ràpita, characteristic for their large expanse of white sands and crystal clear turquoise waters.

Towards the north of Santanyí, we find a wide range of beaches and coves, we can choose to enjoy natural and virgin beaches or beaches with restaurants and services.

In this area and further towards Felanitx, there are mountainous and rocky areas with ancient architectures such as Santueri Castle, Sant Salvador… where you can enjoy spectacular views and incredible sunsets.

Arriving towards Campos, the routes are dispersed, we can head towards Sa Ràpita and there visit a reformed fishing village. Towards Sa Rápita we can stop in Ses Covetes, a town with some preserved fishermen`s houses from where we can get to Sa Ràpita by walking along its beach since both are connected.

If we prefer to change places, we can go to the Port of Felanitx, also known as Porto Colom. Characteristic for its old center, its beaches, and its family atmosphere.

In conclusion, the south-east of Mallorca is the perfect to live in and if you are looking for a family environment and shuffling sea and land, what better place than Santanyí, which is located in the epicenter.
